Table grape growers are often confronted with the problem of their red grapes not reaching the desired colour. While the grapes may have developed flavour and size , the colour development can be lagging behind for a range of agronomic reasons. ProTone SG containing the natural plant hormone s-ABA (Abscisic Acid), allows growers to accelerate or increase the red colouration of their red table grape varieties. It does this by accelerating the accumulation of anthocyanin in the skins of maturing grapes. Anthocyanins are responsible for the red colour of the skins of red grape varieties.

 

ProTone SG has been developed over a number of years in the major Tablegrape growing areas of Australia, and was launched in December 2010. The huge demand for this new product in South Africa, USA and South America has seen supplies tight for the Australian market. While it is early in the season, and floods are having an impact on many production areas, the first applications are proving the same exciting results that were seen in trial work.
