Sumitomo Chemical Australia is pleased to announce the release of Sumithion 1000EC in Australia for use in the locust, grain protection, pasture and poultry litter markets.
Charles McClintock, Business Development Manager for Professional Products and Environmental Health at Sumitomo Chemical said; “We have sold the active ingredient Fenitrothion to third party manufacturers and government bodies such as the Australian Plague Locust Commission in Australia for many years, and we are now pleased to announce the release of our own retail brand in Sumithion 1000EC”.
Locust control
The largest hatchings of locusts in almost 40 years are anticipated to occur in the eastern states this spring and the Australian Plague Locust commission as well as state departments of Agriculture have stocked up on Sumithion as one of their preferred control agents.
Sumithion has long been a preferred control agent as it is fast and has a low persistence in the environment. Sumithion 1000EC has a low 14 day domestic withholding period and the shortest Export Grazing Interval (14 Days) of any control agent registered for use against locusts.
The Australian Plague Locust should be controlled by targeting 2nd to 4th instar stages, preferably once they have formed “bands”, thereby enabling a more targeted spraying solution.
Sumithion 1000EC is registered to control a number of locust species including Australian Plague Locust, Spur-throated Locust, Migratory Locust and Wingless Grasshopper.
Grain protection
For cereal grain protection, Sumithion 1000EC can be used to control a number of insect pests including both susceptible and maldison-resistant Grain Weevils, Flour Beetles, Saw-toothed Grain Beetle, Tropical Warehouse Moth and Indian Meal Moth.
Sumithion 1000EC can be applied to bulk grain, as a structural treatment, or as a surface treatment to grain storages.
Pastures
When used in pastures, Sumithion 1000EC is registered for control of Sitona Weevil in lucerne as well as Pasture Cockchafer (NSW, TAS & SA only), Underground Grass Grub (NSW, VIC & SA Only), Oxycanus Grub (NSW, VIC, SA & TAS only) and Corbie / Winter Corbie (Tas only) in pastures.
